Lucheche Cooperative

Lucheche Cooperative was established informally in 2013 and trialled the planting of Corymbia citriodora trees on their own farm land with the aim of selling the leaf biomass back to KHP.  The scheme has been so successful that the Cooperative was formally registered and trained, and now has  33 hectares of trees planted as of 2017 equating to over 80,000 trees. It has 121 farmers and most of them plant trees, but it has since expanded to provide loans for its members and to help each other with other innovative ways of income generation. KHP is very proud to say the least of its Cooperative who are a shining example of how things can be done positively in Malawi.

USAID-Perform & Grants

USAID- Perform funded project has helped KHP with a grant for tree planting and expansion of the Cooperative scheme. The partnership has been a great success over a three year period. Unfortunately there are very few grants in Malawi for tree planting that support the private sector in this endeavour, but this one has been crucial for our company and for our farmers. We hope that USAID will continue to come up with positive and innovative grants like this that really make a difference. KHP is open to applying for further grants to expand its environmental projects, whether on KHP or Cooperative land. If you are interested to work with KHP in any capacity of this nature then please drop us an email and let us know you are about!
